The seeds of former generations

Have been sown within us

And on the day

that we can do no more

Our children shall rise up

To behold the earth

That we have left them

May the ground we leave be fertile

May the soil be rich

Our life’s work

Our Swan Song

May it become

their song in the night

The tune on their lips

when their children fall asleep

To the sound of their singing voices

And though the seeds

Be watered with tears

May they take root

break the surface

And rise up into a grove of trees

That will bring shade

to our children’s children
